  1. I
Twas in the year of '98
That Time of blood and woe,
When many an English soldier fell
    Beneath the rebels vengeful blow
The English troops from them they flew
    Like chaff before the gale,
When they heard the dreadful warcry
    Of the sons of Inisfail.
    II
On June the six and twentieth,
    I heard old people say
The battle of Kilcumney was fought
    and lost that day,
    The rebels they were routed
They fought with right good will
    Then wandered many a pikeman
    That night upon the hill.
