    Rush out both fierce and thin,
    And it its train brought piercing rain
    That soon would find your skin.
    I steered my "cane" through wind and rain,
    The hedges dark between;
    No ghost or "fay" crossed my way
    Till I came near Shea's Raheen.
    A mournful keen from the old raheen
    Fell on my listening ears.
