  1. About one hundred and fifty years ago there was a time known as the "Public Works". At this time the labourers were starving and the Government decided to make roads to give them employment.
    One of these roads was being made from Shortalstown to Dunamaggan. There was a man named Mr. Prim appointed to pay the labourers, and he was guarded by a policeman.
