   In this district the practice of making Saint Brigid's and St. Patrick's crosses has been given up this long time. But in some of the townlands around Mullinavat these customs are still kept up. St. Brigid's cross is made with straw. The people take great care to see that the straw is well cleaned first. Then they plait it into the shape of a cross and tie the ends with pieces of string. They hang it over the door on the night of St. Brigid's feast, February 1st. Afterwards they hang it up in the cowhouse. St Patrick's cross is not now even as common as St. Brigid's cross.
