    Another Local Happening
I heard the old people often telling about a wake which was held in the district long ago. There was an old woman named Mrs Duff dead, she lived in the district of Carravanamorheeny, Elphin, Co. Roscommon, and she was an old woman when she died. But the night of her wake (she lived about half-a-mile in from the public road, in the fields) there was a babel of voices going on the whole night in the fields, between the house, where the wake was, and the road. Every person who went to the wake that night, heard it, and they could see no person. There is a man alive, who told me this story, as he himself heard it. The babel was kept up the whole night, even people sitting inside at the wake heard the voices. Its was a summer night.
