Long ago in Ireland before the National Schools were established there were Hedge schools in which some of the Irish people got their education.
There was a hedge school in a townland called Lung which is about two miles from Ballyhadereen. It was a stable which was given by a person called Mr. Duffy.
In this school the children learned the Irish language, catechism, geography, and writing. There was also story telling going on when the master had time. The children(continues on next page)- Informant
