  1. There was a hedge-school at Ballyledder cross, The master was Thade Sheehan. He had another school at Mealis. He taught during the day, and at night he taught the working people who had no time to attend during the day.
    The school-children attending his School used to invite him to their houses in turn where he was kept and got a little money
    He taught Irish and English and sums.
    The School was a small thatched house. They had no desks, only stones for seats
    For writing they used burned copins
    When the Killorglin School was built some of the children went there, then Kilgobnet School was built.
