  1. Bog black the very lowest sraic of the bog hole here in a field of Denis O'Sullivan's Derrinid (the field itself is called Poll Tobac relic of the smuggling days.
    This bog black at the lowest depth was smooth and described as like "flummery" but deep black in colour. People came from all parts of parish Tuosist looking for this bog-black which was noted for the excellent deep black dye made therefrom.
    I remember women coming for this bog black to dye their woollen thread & flannels.
