  1. Our house is thatched and thatch cottages are rare now and we are very proud of ours.
    This how thatched roofs are made:-
    Like slate houses timber gwmain is found in our bogs us usually used forming the foundation for the thatch and cross beams are placed across the top and down the sides and across below and laths the same are placed across them.
    In very tough sliabs tough sods - a foot wide and of the length of one side of the roof with some left extra for a lap over at top. If side is say 10 feet long leave sod 12 feet and same at other side. These Scravi are selected with the greatest care and before putting them on
