- The people long ago had only three meals a day. They used to have porridge in the morning and at dinnertime they would have potatoes and at night they would have potatoes and salt and butter-milk. They used to get there breakfast at eight o'clock and their dinner at two o'clock and their supper at nine o'clock. They used to have half a days work done with a spade and shovel before their breakfast. Each meal was of porridge and potatoes and butter-milk. Potatoes was not eaten at every meal they were only eaten at one meal. They used to drink plenty of milk out of wooden noggens. The people had no table and they would sit round a basket in the middle of the floor. Any person who had a table they would hang it up on the wall to save it.
The kind of bread they had was oaten bread. Th way they baked it was they put it standing by the fire for about an hour and a half. They never had meat becaus they never had the price of it. They only got tea at Christmas They would also eat cabbage, turnips and onions. The only food the people had long ago that we have not now was oatmeal bread.
