    Long ago, twenty one men used usually be on each side of the team but now there is only fifteen. Two parties would meet in a certain field and the side which was able to take the ball home won. I heard of a game that was played between Freshford and Conahy. The first time they met, the match was a draw. The next time, Conahy had one extra man named Grace so then Freshford put in a Mr. Banim. At one time, the two extra's were going straight for the ball, the two arrived at the spot the same time and the two kicked together but the ball with a shot burst at their feet. The match was never finished from that day to this
    Long ago, there was a ball alley in the yard where the present yard of Maher's is situated. Here, the boys used to practise handball and play matches. Instead of goal-posts long ago, the ground was marked with white-wash. The hurls were made from ash trees and they were smaller but heavier.
