    Saturdays are looked on as unlucky for starting any work, because it is the last day of the week. The borrowing days are the last two days of March an d the first day of April. They are so called because March borrowed the first day of April to skin the old cow.
    Lammas Day comes on the first of August. It is called so because it is the hungriest time in the year.
    The Gooseberry Fair comes the first fair in August. It is so called because gooseberries are sold in it, and they are also very plentiful.
    The Margy More (Margadh Mór) comes on the Monday before Christmas (in Monaghan Monday is market day). It is called the margy Mor because nearly everyone is
