  1. Old Forts in the locality
Within a mile or so from the school there are five forts or lisses.
The first which gives this townland its name is in Lissivigeen - Lios Uí bhigín or the Fodrt of O Bigeen just behind my house about three hundred yards to the north-west of Lissivigeen school. This is a big fort and is surrounded by a double fence. It is said that long age there was a subterranean passage going from this to the other forts.
The house in which we live is a large two storeyed house. It is built eighty or ninety years ago by a Scotchman name Dumas who named the place Fortwilliam. My Grandfather bought the property from Dumas's son.
