- Long ago in this district people were not as civilized as they are now. It is said that if a cat scrapes timber or anything link it, it is a sign of rain. If a dog eats grass it is also a sign of rain. When distant hills seem near we are sure of rain. Blue light in the fire is supposed to be a bad sign of the weather. When soot falls down the chimney rain is expected. It is also if that if flying-ants are about it is a sign of rain. Sea-birds flying inland is supposed to be a sign of a storm at sea. It is said in this district that the south west wind brings the most rain.
