It is worthy of note that Revd. Patrick S. Dineen who was born at Carn and who has attained such eminence in Irish Literary circles received his early education at Srón from Mr. Terence Dennehy. Patrick Cronin a native of Gort na gCeann taught a school in a cowhouse owned by John Cremin of Srón Beag. Cronin's children are still living in Gort na gCeann. (c) Abha na Sciortán (river of the ticks). Sometimes misspelt and mispronounced Aunaskirtane. Area:- 1056 acres 1 rood and 7 perches There is a fort at Denis Cahills. Very small. A stone fence. Townland is called after the river The Comar flowing into Abha Na Sciortan is county bounds here. Father Dinneen in his Dictionary says meaning of the place name is uncertain. The landlord of the whole station was Lord Kenmare, John James O'Connell having a middle interest in Abha Na Sciortan.

There is a fort at Con Sullivan's and another at Con Lenihan's with three rooms. A cathairin at Patrick Sweeney's. Con Sullivan's fort has flag with some writing.
At Faill an Fhiolair (eagle's cliff) was an eagle's nest. The father of John Moynihan of Sron saw the eagle take a large full grown
