One vessel in which the cake was baked was called an oven, pot-oven or bastable. A griddle was also used. Bread was sometimes baked in front of the fire standing against a support known as the bread-stand. It was made of iron.Stampy Bread or Potato-cake was specially made in November when all the potatoes were dug.
