    cross. Then a twig was burned and with the carbon a cross was made on the cardboard also. Then the blood of a hen duck or goose was got and put on each also after which the cross was worn on the left shoulder by each child. Some old women were skilled in the making of these crosses and used to sell them to others by the dozen or score.
