  1. The people taught beside hedge and ditches and in forts. There is a fort over in Foley's where people used to learn their lessons. It is a round fort and they used to have stools in side in it. This fort was out in the middle of an open field. The name of the teacher was Foley. The schools were carried on in the farmers' houses. The teacher lodged in the houses. They were paid with money for the instruction they gave.
