  1. Long ago a man got up to go to the fair one night. His wife got up also. People then had not clocks and they did not know the time. When the man went to the fair his wife thought it was not worth while going to bed again, so she began sewing a bawneen. After a while she heard three knocks at the door, three knocks came again, after a while another three knocks came. She went to bed and slept until morning. When she got up the bawneen was spattered with blood.
