- The days of the Land League in this part of Leitrim were very severe and the poor people were in a very bad way. They were always afraid of their Landlord or agents and some of them were driven out of their homes. In some cases were burned to the ground, and they had to live in barns, byres, and others who had no barns or byres had to go to the workhouse.
Miss Anna Parnell, sister of Charles Stewart Parnell, did a great lot of work for the poor and soon had a League formed which was a great help to them.
Two ladies from Dublin assisted her, Miss Keppel and Miss Hawkes and she formed a branch of what was called the "Ladies Land League" and appointed a local lady, Miss Mary Mc Gurrin, Kiltyclogher(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
