- Churning
Our churn is one year old,
It is the shape of a small barrel and about three feet high. There are no marks on it. The parts of the churn are the dash the lid and the lagan.
We never churn in the winter because we have no milk but we churn once a week in the summer.
Anybody who comes in when the churning is going on according to the old superstition is supposed to help at it otherwise they will bring away the butter.
The churning is done by hand and it takes about half an hour to do it. The dash is moved up and down and when the butteer is nearly gathered on the milk it is given a rolling a rolling motion.
