    with plenty of dry straw on the floor and planks or poles to roost on. There is a saying about clutches of eggs must be got where there is a sock.
    There are a few breeds of ducks, Indian, Runners, and Common Ducks, The Indian Runners are very good layers, they are mostly table fowl. It is hens that always hatch ducks. It is very seldom that ducks hatch. When the small ducks are hatched they should not be let into the water for a few days, for a while they are fed on oaten meal and water.
    There are pisreóga attached to the hens no one would give a clutch of eggs away, as they say they would give away their luck. They would not set an even number of eggs, because of they do give away eggs there is usually given or taken as the case may be. To see a piece of straw on the hens tail is a sign of a funeral. To hear the cock crowing during the night is the sign of a death mark put on hatching eggs is sprinkled with Holywater before setting. In olden days the eggs were generally put hatching in the kitchen under the chest or bin. This is done in many houses yet.
