  1. There is no forge in this village at the present time but there was one in it about twenty-five years ago and John Hughes was the blacksmith.
    There are six forges in the parish and the names of the smiths are John Minogue Christopher Conway John Callinan Martin Callinan John Egan and Michael Egan. John Egan's father was a blacksmith and it is said that he was the best blacksmith from Loughrea to Limerick for shoeing horses. The forges are situated beside the road and there is no crossroads near them. There is a stream near all the forges. They are built of stones and mortar and some of them are covered with thatch others with slates and others with corrugated iron. There is a wide door in some forges and a narrow door in others..
