  1. A woman by the name of Mrs. Connors, Newtown, Gort, used make dolls. I was told she used make a few of them every week. She would get straw and cut it up very small. Then she would get a bit of a worn sheet and sew it. She would pack in the straw and sew it up again. This was for the body of the doll. She used get two pieces for the legs. How she made the head I do not know. But when she used have the head made, she used paint the face with red and white paint.
She used to get horse hair and cut it up very small and stick it on the head for hair.
At the end of the week she used send them to Galway city and get a good price for them.
