    It was in those days also that the "hedge schools" were made. There was a very good school in Peterswell. It was only an old barn but it was the one known of around. There is a place in Bally Cuddy which was used in the penal days for the reading of mass. It is called "Gleann an Aifrinn".
    There is another place in Sonnagh which is callen "Páirc an Aifrinn". This was also in used in the penal days.
    Thus did the priests read mass among the mountains and lonely places. They gave up their lives for to do the work of God.
