of poteen going to the house.
The friend would go to the girl's house and deliver his message.
If he got a favourable answer he usually took out the bottle and he and the father drank the bottle of whiskey.
The girl was silent because she had to marry the man appointed by her parents.
A few days later both parties went to Galway and settled the fortune when this was settled the young couple went to town on another day to buy the ring.
After the ring was bought and the fortune fixed the next day to look forward to was the day of the wedding. At that time the marriages used to take place about three o clock in the day.
The bridegroom's father would invite his guests and the brides's father would invite his guests.
