    All the people go to Mass on that day There are certain superstitions attached to that day in this district. People say that if you give away anything on that day you will have bad luck all the year round. But they always like to get something because it will bring them good luck. Also it is supposed to be very unlucky to meet with an accident of any kind on that day - as a wound got on New Year's Day is not supposed to heal till the day comes round again. It is considered very unlucky for a dark-haired man to go into a house first on New Year's morning.
    An Nodlaig Beag
    This is a catholic holiday and every body goes to Mass on that day. In some houses there are twelve candles lighting on that night in honour of Our Lady. It is a day of feasting. Everybody has nicer food than they have every other day. It is a custom to leave up all the Christmas decorations until after this day, because it would bring bad luck on the house if they were taken
