Some people long ago ate wheaten bread without butter and drank hot buttermilk before they went to bed. The bread was usually hot as it was used just after being baked.
In olden times people got one white loaf in each house at Christmas time. They also ate puddings and beef. Meat was seldom eaten at any other time. On Easter Sunday people ate about three or four fried eggs each.
