    house where the light came from he saw it was an old witch. He asked her for lodging and she said, "No you can't get lodging because there are robbers in this house who would kill you."
    The man was so very tired that he begged of the old witch to give him lodging. At last she said she would, but the next day he would have to chop up a cart-load of wood for her.
    The man kept his word and the next day he chopped up the cartload of wood, but when night came he was so tired after his hard day's work that he begged of the old witch to give him lodging for another night.
    The old witched vowed at first she would do no such thing, but after a while she gave her consent provided he would fetch her a blue light that burned at the bottom of the well.
    When morning came she led him
