  1. "The Potato Crop."
In this district every farmer grows potatoes. On our farm we have about three or three and a half acres under this crop every years.
Some years part of the ground may have the manure put on before it is ploughed but the usual practice in this district is to put the manure in the drills at planting times.
Potatoes are now always planted in drills, and the drills are made with an iron drills plough. Wooden ploughs were used up to about ten years ago, but I don't know that there are any in use now. The potatoes are cut into sets with one or two eyes in each set before planting. Some farmers put their potatoes or plant of them in sprouting boxes for about two months before planting time and have sprouts on them at planting time.
