  1. Bread was made from wheat and oats grown locally. There were different kinds of bread made, oaten bread, potato bread, and soda bread. Oaten bread was made with oat meal, and boiling water, and salt, and was baked in front of the fire against a gridiron. Potato bread was made with potatoes and flour and was rolled out with a rolling pin, it was cut into farls, it was then baked on the fire on a frying pan. Soda bread was baked with flour, soda, salt, and buttermilk, it was then baked on a frying pan on the fire. There was as much bread baked at one time as
