  1. There were no hedge-schools in our district long ago
    The children were taught out in the open air. Some of the teachers who taught lived in their own townland. Some of the names of the teachers were Miss White, Miss Gallagher and Miss Ross. They were not strangers who taught in these schools. Miss White lived in the townland of Roughan.
    Some of the teachers lived in their own homes and the rest lodged in the houses of this district.
    They taught only English and Arithmetic. Irish was not known by the teachers at that time.
    There were very little books used for writing in. It was all done by a
