- The landlords of this district were Sir Peter Bam and his wife, and they used to live in Ards. These were in the place for about forty years. There was an eviction in Gartan one time and all the people were driven from their homes because they had no money to pay the rent. The evicted people then had to go and live in caves and rocks or whatever place they found shelter, and after a time they died.
