  1. In the last generation half or more of the marriages of the district were "run away matches". The young man and his "intended" went to a local dance. They danced together most of the night. Then during the course of the final dance, both slipped quietly out of the door.
    They were married next day and quietly after a suitable interval, returned to their homes.
