A family of the Ryans who lived in Tipperary in older times were called "stone throwers". They got this nick-name because they fought many battles with other clans and stones were the only weapons they had.
There once lived in the heart of the Knockmealdown Mountain, a man whose surname was Ahearne. He had only one arm and he was supposed to have killed an ox with a single blow of this arm.
