    each other with black thorn sticks. This is the way they honoured Saint Patrick in olden times. This was called the wetting of the shamrock. The church, tried to put a stop to all this bad work, but it did not succeed. Then the goverment made a law that all public houses have to be closed on that day. Now- a-day the people have various kinds of amusement such as footballing and hurling and tennis where lots of people attend. This is the right way to honour this day.
