  1. Situated about a quarter of mile south of Bonniconlon is ‘Oatlands House.”
    Long ago there lived a family of the O’Dowds in that house. One day as one of them was walking on the shore of Enniscrone he saw a beautiful lady sitting on a rock combing her hair. The rock was some distance out in the sea, but unaware of the lady he crouched out as far as the rock and caught hold of her. Then he asked her to go home with him and that he would marry her. The lady consented and after a few days they were married.
