  1. In the month of |July when the potatoes are very scarce, the farmers wives in this district use nettles as a food for the fowl.
    The nettles are plucked into a large basket. Afterwards they are put into a pot of boiling water and allowed to boil for about twenty minutes. When soft they are strained on a basket and when well cooled the stems and veins are extracted from the leaves. The leaves are then mixed with meal and are ready for the fowl.
