About thirty five years ago while my family were still young I had a very good servant girl called Givahan from Glann. We were the best of friends i can never forget her kindness and when she got her passage paid to America she went and I was very lonely after her. She wrote often and many a time sent newspapers and presents at Christmas. She often promised she would come home on a visit and was now three years there. She was fond of giving little stories or verses this was one! "I went down the garden path, I saw a leaf upon a branch, The leaf and branch will never wither, Till you and I meet together" Some months afterwards I was up very late one night, waiting for the return of my husband who was seldom so late on the road, it was well passed midnight. One of the children who slept upstairs cried loudly for its mother. I left my sewing and hurried up. The storm which had been growing fiercer forced the latch off the the door and hurdled leaves and twigs into the hall. I distinctly saw the servant girl coming down the stairs smiling although she was then 3000 miles away. She went out the
