    Long ago flax was grown extensively all around this district and in east Galway. When the flax was scutched it was steeped in a bog hole or in soft (..) After a few days the flax was removed and the fibre was separated and taken to the local weaver who wove the linen thread into sheets, pillow covers and table covers, etc., and these articles lasted for years and were far superior to those produced at the present time.
