- The Penal days came on with great harshness after the Treaty of Limerick. All the land of the Catholics was in the hands of the Protestants, and no priest was let say mass. The priests should stay in the mountains and there they used say mass on the side of the mountain. There are places still marked where mass was said near this parish.
