  1. Two noble youths from a fiery glen
    To a lonely prison are now cast in;
    No trial by jury, no chance of bail,
    But sixteen months in Limerick jail.
    Oh! the youths arrested at the dead of night,
    Foreninst their parents 'twas a bitter sight;
    For attempted murder they do now stand
    And firing shots o'er the grazing land.
    Here comes the police with measured beat
    In their midnight march up through Broadford street,
    With the youths well handcuffed and in the barrack den
    Till noon next day they were fastened in.
    In Broadford barrack at noon next day
    The informations on the table lay;
    The R.M. viewed them with a sarcastic smile
    And he sent the youths to the judge for trial.
    Oh! for sixteen months they were dragged up and down
    From Limerick city to Ennis town,
    Till a Dublin jury, as you all may see,
    Smashed the galling chain and set the prisoners free.
