  1. By the village of Quin on a Candlemas Day,
    And just at the Abbey Hotel,
    I heard a clear sound, went for miles all around,
    'Twas the sweet sounding tone of a bell.
    How could I pass, 'twas the bell for the Mass,
    I went into the chapel to pray;
    And I felt as if Angels conveyed me for miles
    From the village of Quin on that day.

    Almost every home and hotel;
    And the people so gay, in flocks go to pray,
    At the sweet sounding tone of the bell.

    By the muse of the mind I was guided;
    And I silently prayed for the souls far away
    Who built the beautiful Abbey beside it.
    If I were a poet I would take off my coat
    To write of the pious holy men
    In letters of gold, they were brave men of old,
