   aside. The match was a very exciting one and Latton beat Aughnamullen two goals to nil. They travelled on sidecars which were very common in those times.

   Townlands never challenged each other but parishes always had teams and they often played a friendly match to see which was the better side. The ball was never kicked across the country from one townland to another. Goal posts were always used but point bars were not used. The hurley sticks were of hard timber and about three feet long with a crooked top. The ball was of leather and had high rims all around. It was of very good material and the inside full of fibre and pieces of corks and other sorts of filling material. Its shape was round.
