This food was made by putting oatmeal and seed in a crock and filling the crock with water. In about a week's time the water would be strained off with a strainer but then it would be put on the fire until it would become hard. It would be called sowans. Then it would be sliced and eaten.
Another food which was used on Good Friday and Spy Wednesday when the people could not take milk on any food or without food was dumplings. These dumplings were made in a pot. They were made in the following manner: The people would get oatmeal mix it in water and handful of nettles and make it in round balls and boil it and this is the food they would have on feast days or when visitors would call.
