    The drowning in Lough Sillan took place on the 25th July 1868. Master McCabe and seventeen of his pupils were drowned in Lough Sillan. The master took the children for a ride and when they were out a bit in the Lake, the boat began to leak. The children all rushed towards the master. The boat turned and all were drowned. The master could have saved himself only he was afraid of the mothers of the children.

    Those drown were Mary McCabe and Rose McCabe (sisters)
