- There are hens, ducks, chickens, geese, horses, cows, and calves at my home.
The cows remain outside day and night during the Summer, but in the Winter they are kept in the house.
The cow house is called a byre.
There is a place in it for each cow.
The cows are tied with chains round their necks.
The house that the horses stay in is called a stable. Horses can be trained and some of them are very faithful. The farm horse does very heavy work. Horses are clipped in the Winter.
We keep a number of pigs too, these are fed three times a day.
When they are fat they are sent off to the Dublin market. They are fed from the produce of the farm.
We keep a large number of fowls.
These are kept mainly for their eggs, which are sold in the market. The hens are put into a house at night. This(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
