Soldiers used to be in pursuit of priests saying Mass and if they got them they put them to death.
The priests would be watched, and if they were caught saying Mass in the houses, they would be put to death. The person who would let them in to celebrate Mass would be put to death also. The priests would not be allowed a church to celebrate Mass.
