- You never heard the way the ould people used to make candles long ago.
When a sheep would die they would open h er, and take out all the fat meat.
Then you know they used to melt the meat into dripping.
Then they would twist two or three pieces of cotton wool together; this was called the wick. Then they would tie the wicks on a stick, and dip them in the dripping, then would take it up and let them dry, and so on until it was made.
Begob you wouldn't stand the smell when they would be lighten.
