- The following bealoideas was told me by my assistant Mrs O Bynre N.T. of Killincooley.
During her mothers youth there lived in the neighbourhood a man named Mayfield William known locally as a 'Fairyman'. He was supposed to have the power of getting back the 'profit' gone from the churning of some affected neighbour.
It seems that milk, the profit of which was taken, went bad immediately after being milked and which if churned turned to the consistency of a malodorous grease.
The 'profit' was recover thus; Churning was started at the same time a fire lighted at the bán gate and the person who came to put out the fire would be the person who held the profit.
This person was then seized, a piece of his clothing cut off and cast onto the fire and when completely burned the charm was gone.
